Quality of R.O. Water: How does R.O. water compare to bottled water or other water filtration methods?
The water quality of Reverse Osmosis is top notch. Many of the quality brands of bottled water use Reverse Osmosis (R.O.) to filter the water they are bottling. The sad truth is that many bottled water companies literally bottle city water with little or no water filtration treatment before hand and this is entirely legal for them to do because there is very little government regulation surrounding the bottled water Industry. Reverse Osmosis is far superior to other water filtration methods as R.O. is the only way to remove all contaminants and leave behind a product that is 100% pure H2O. Aquasafe’s Drinking water is full bodied with a touch of minerals – not like the flat tasting water from distilled or bottled water. The best part of owning a R.O. system from Aquasafe is having the peace of mind knowing you and your loved ones are getting the purest of drinking water possible in the most economical way.
A Home Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System is by far the most convenient, economical and effective method of water purification. Reverse Osmosis works by forcing water through the pores of a semi-permeable Membrane. The pores of Aquasafe’s Reverse Osmosis Membranes are 0.0001 Microns in diameter (equivalent to 0.00000004 of an inch). The pores are so small that the only thing that can pass through the membrane is the water molecule. Dissolved toxins and contaminants that have not been removed by the three RO pre filters are removed by the R.O. Membrane, providing the ultra purified water you seek.
Non- Reverse Osmosis water filtration systems typically use a single or double activated carbon cartridge to treat the water. The pore sizes of Non-Reverse Osmosis Filters are much larger, generally 0.5 – 10 microns in diameter which means that toxin or contaminant that are smaller in micron size will get through the Non-R.O. filter and will be ingested if that water is consumed. As a result the water produced by Non-Reverse Osmosis Water filtration is far less clean and safe and pales in comparison to the supreme quality drinking water that is produced from a Reverse Osmosis water filtration system by Aquasafe.
Absolutely you can do the install yourself! Every Reverse Osmosis System Aquasafe offers has been specifically designed as a D.I.Y (Do It Yourself) system and is extremely easy to install. The very detailed step by step instructions with example photos are easy to understand and straight forward. All of the fittings either screw into place or literally push into place. All of the tubing is color codded. You do not need any specialized set of skills to install a Aquasafe R.O. System. Installation takes between 45mins and 1hr.
However, if you are physically disabled or are intimidated this kind of task any local handy man or plumber could install the system for you for a small fee. Alternatively perhaps you have a friend or relative that is good with their hands that would be willing to help you. If you do get someone else to install the system for you, please ensure that they follow the installation instructions.
This is the biggest myth in the water filtration industry. In short the answer is no. Any nutritionist with a degree will tell you that you get far less then 1% of your daily intake of minerals from the water you consume. The healthy minerals in your body come from the food you eat or from the naturally sourced mineral supplements that many of us take on a daily basis. To understand the answer to this question further we need to understand what “minerals in water means”. If you were to take your tap water and send it to a water testing laboratory you would get back a report that would have healthy minerals traces such as Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium etc, along with a long list of the toxins, contaminants, industrial pollutants and the varying trace levels of pharmaceuticals found. This is no joke and the sad part is that virtually every water source tested in North America has returned similar findings. Unfortunately, a water filtration system that can differentiate between good and bad minerals found in your water does not exist. A short list of the bad minerals found in your drinking water include, Arsenic, Fluoride, Chromium and Radium to name a few.
The main concern over water should be targeted at removing all toxicity from your drinking water and not over mineral content. The primary function of water with your body is to hydrate and detoxify. To put all of this into context, whether water contains 1ppm – 100ppm (Parts per million) of Calcium or Magnesium isn’t really important because virtually all of the minerals in your body come from the food you eat or mineral supplements you may be taking. However is you have 1ppm – 100ppm of Arsenic or any other of the many toxins or industrial pollutants commonly found in your water it is of grave importance and can lead to detrimental health implications. A reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System from Aquasafe will Remove all forms of toxicity from your water leaving you and your loved ones with the purest of drinking water possible for under $0.01 per/liter.
Most of Aquasafe’s clients have their systems location as the cabinet under the kitchen sink. The dimensions of an Aquasafe System are 15″L x 5.2″W x 16″H as it is designed to fit in the cabinet space under the average kitchen sink with lots of room to spare even if you have a Garbage disposal (garberator) under your kitchen sink. Any Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water system also comes standard with a 3.2 Gallon Water Holding Tank with the dimensions of 11″L x 11″W x 13′H. The holding tank can be laid on its side to save space if need be. The System and the Holding should fit nicely into the cabinet under your kitchen sink with lots of space for the things you currently keep in that space. You can also have the Water Storage Tank installed in an adjacent cabinet or even in another room or in the basement if you find that for your system and storage tank will not fit under your sink or in any other location you are installing your system into. Please note that our systems come standard with 10″ of blue tubing. If you are going to require additional tubing for your preferred installation location you can order the extra tubing you need cut to your specs by visiting THIS LINK.
Also good to know is that you can install the system anywhere in your home where there is water supply. If the water pressure of your homes plumbing is good (55psi or greater) you can run the a long line of tubing (30-40 feet) from the water supply to your system. You can also run long lines of tubing from the Water Storage Tank to the location of your Aquasafe Faucet.
Also if you would like two or more Aquasafe faucet locations in your home, which can be very convenient, you simply need a 3 way “T” Adaptor in order to splice into the water holding tanks tubing, a secondary Aquasafe Faucet and the appropriate length of tubing.
Every Aquasafe Systems comes pre loaded with all of the water filters needed to produce 1000 gallons of ultra purified drinking water. A Purchase of a COMBO SYSTEM will come with 3 years+ worth of all filters needed to produce 7000 gallons of ultra purified drinking water.
The average household consumes between 3-5 gallons per day. At this average rate of consumption the systems pre filters should be changed every 6 to 8 months. To ensure you are getting the highest quality drinking water from your system, we encourage our client to follow a simple schedule of changing their pre filters (stages 1,2 and 3) every six months as the pre filters are rated for 1000 Gallons on average. You should not wait until the Pre filters of your system are completely depleted before changing the filters After all, the reason behind a R.O. System from Aquasafe is to enjoy pure water on tap free of all contaminants, toxins and pollutants. The filter changes are quick, easy and inexpensive (Just $27.00) for one full change! This truly is the most economical system on the market!
The 4th stage of any system from Aquasafe is the R.O. Membrane and is rated for 4000-5000 gallons of purified water production which will last 2-4years time.
If you have the Home II System from Aquasafe, the 5th stage is the Final Polishing Filter and will need to be changed every second time you change your three pre filters.
If you have the Maximus II System from Aquasafe, the 5th stage is the DI Resin Stage and will need to be changed every time you change your three prefilters. The 6th stage on the Maximus II System is is the Final Polishing Filter and will need to be changed every second time you change your three pre filters.
As you can see, maintenance and upkeep of an R.O. System from Aquasafe is easy and inexpensive. To swap out the old filters for the new filters you simply use the prefilter canister wrench that came with your system. It should take between 15-20 mins to complete a filter change. You will spend less then 1 hr per year maintaining your system!
Aquasafe’s Waste water to Purified water ratio’s of (1:1) is the best for R.O. Systems in its class. This allows for faster purified water production and for those of you that pay for water, you will not be wasting any water that you don’t have to. Over time, Aquasafe system’s can save you hundreds of dollars if you have a water bill as the discharge water is at an a minimum with our R.O. Systems.
Every R.O. System will produce waste water. Where other R.O. systems have a waste water to purified water ratio of 7:1 (7 parts waste to 1 part purified water) Aquasafe’s ratio’s can be set to a 1:1 ratio (where 1 part is waste water and 1 part is purified water). To put this another way, with an Aquasafe System you can easily produce 1 gallon of purified water to every one gallon of waste water.
With Aquasafe’s “E-Z Flush Variable Flow Restrictor” you have complete control over the waste water to purified water ratio’s of your system. We recommend to all clients to not exceed a (1:1) ratio, 1 gallon of Purified water to every one gallon of Waste water as it is important for the Reverse Osmosis Membrane to have the ability to flush the contaminants, toxins and pollutants it is removing to the waste water line which in turn ensures the full life span of the Reverse Osmosis Membrane.
The power behind a Reverse Osmosis System allowing it to be the most effective method of eliminating or substantial reducing virtually all contaminants is attributed to the Reverse Osmosis Membrane. The Membrane of any Reverse Osmosis water purification system is the very heart of that system.
How does an R.O. Membrane work?
The reverse osmosis membrane is a semi-permeable “membrane” with extremely small pores to which virtually only the H20 molecule can pass through, leaving all undesired contaminants on the other side of the membrane to be flushed away. This “flushing away” is known as cross-flow and is fundamental to the life-span of an R.O Membrane and the quality of the R.O. system as this is the method to which all contaminants are washed away. The pores of a R.O. Membrane are 0.0001 Microns in Diameter. To put this extremely small diameter into perspective, the diameter of bacteria are 0.2 – 1 Microns and the diameter of viruses are 0.02 – 0.4 microns. This means that Bacteria and viruses are vastly larger then the pores of the R.O. membrane making it impossible for passage through its pores. This same principal applies to a vast amount of other harmful contaminants commonly found in tap water.
Its important to note that the Reverse Osmosis Membrane does not achieve these amazing results on its own. Every Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System offered by Aquasafe has three pre-filters which are very important to achieving the highly purified water solution Aquasafe has been offering since 1993. The first pre-filter stage is a 5 Micron Sedimentary filter designed to remove all large particulates, nothing larger then 5 Microns can move past this stage. After the sedimentary stage there are two High Quality 1 Micron Carbon pre-filters. The first of the two Carbon filters is a 1 Micron Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Filter and the second is a 1 Micron Coconut Carbon Block (CCB) Filter. These three pre-filters take a large portion of the workload away from the Reverse Osmosis Membrane which is essential to the membranes life span and functionality. The Two Carbon filters are specifically designed to remove chlorine, pesticides, nitrates, herbicides, PCP’s, tastes, odor, DBPs (disinfection by products) and VOCs (volatile Organic Compounds) such as Chloramines, THM (Trihalomethanes), TCE (Trichloroethylene). All, Cartridges are constructed totally of FDA grade materials and media.
After the three Pre-Filters the water will then pass through the all important Reverse Osmosis Membrane where it will remove any further contaminants by at least 95%. A short list of tap water contaminants the Reverse Osmosis Membrane will treat is as follows. Barium, Chromium, Magnesium, Manganese, Selenium, Zinc, Arsenic, Chloride, Fluoride, Lead, Nitrates, Sulfates, Cadmium, Copper, Iron, Mercury, Radioactive Particles, Asbestos, and a great many more industrial chemical Pollutants and toxins.
Quality of Reverse Osmosis Systems Can vary in Quality and cost. Aquasafe uses the highest quality filters and materials. Its Pre-filters are FDA approved and consist of the most effective carbon filtration available for maximum reduction of contaminants. The Reverse Osmosis Membrane is constructed 100% of Dow Film-Tech Material supplied by one of the largest producers of R.O Membranes in the United States, making for a truly robust, high quality Reverse osmosis water filtration system.
